Is T3, Rise of the Machines, coming to reality?

T3 is the abbreviation for Terminator 3, the Rise of the Machines. It was a science fiction movie depicting robots that were programmed and can think of its own. These machines were not just robots, but were strong and thinking machines.

This information age you can read a lot of articles about robots and its applications. Robotics had been used for quite sometime now, and are heavily used in mass production of things and even as toys. Its main purpose is for automation.

For the past few years, a lot of scientists are researching and designing robots that may someday replace human beings doing routine tasks. It seems that scientists and researchers have made a good progress in this field.

When I was still in the university studying engineering, in the lab there's a robotic arm which can be commanded to pick up a ball from one point to the other. It can't do more than that task.

One aspect to realise T3 machines is to make robots more agile like human beings flexing a muscle. Humanoid robots and related-works keep researchers and academics busy to achieve human movement.

For starters, prosthesis are now widely used to replace human body parts like arms and legs. Though these are not flexible like muscles, but it means that mechanical parts can be attached to human body to be used as replacement. Heart pacer is a good example that is "actively" helping a person. There's even a device used to monitor a person's heart, though it failed to impress FDA in the US.

Recently, there's a humanoid robot which teaches itself to walk and may eventually run. More and more robots were designed to replace people especially for dangerous tasks like in the battlefield.

Realization of T3-like machines, or I Robots that have emotions yet still to come but dilemma may have already started. At least some people are thinking of future problems that may arise when humanoids co-exists with people.

Humanoids may still be a long way to reality, but there are people who always work to achieve such goal.

What will the world be like when humanoids interacting with real people? Will the world be a better place? Or will people become extinct? hahaha... Just wondering...
